Birds & Brunch returns! Celebrate Black Birders Week with DCBA - birding, brunch, and a live raptor presentation.
About this Event

Join DC Bird Alliance for Birds & Brunch, our signature celebration of Black Birders Week, where community, culture, and conservation come together.

We’ll begin at Juneberry Garage, our gathering spot for the morning, where guests can enjoy a welcome beverage before heading out for a relaxed, beginner-friendly bird walk on the Great Lawn or into Rock Creek Park. Together, we’ll take time to observe, listen, and connect with the birds moving through DC during peak migration.

At 12 PM, we’ll reconvene on the Great Lawn at the Parks at Walter Reed for a special live presentation with Rodney Stotts, renowned African American falconer, who will introduce us to his birds of prey and share insights from his work.

This event is about more than birds. It’s about visibility, joy, and connection. It is a chance to be outside, together, and fully ourselves.

🍽️ Brunch Details

Your ticket includes a welcome beverage and a curated selection of brunch offerings at Juneberry Garage. Additional food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Accessibility

🐢 Pace: Slow, with frequent stops
📏 Distance: Approximately 1–1.5 miles (optional walk)
🪨 Terrain: Paved sidewalks and park trails
Elevation: Moderate to steep inclines throughout. The walk to Rock Creek is about 0.25 miles on paved sidewalk with hills. The Great Lawn is significantly sloped, and the trailhead into Rock Creek includes a steep paved incline
🪑 Rest Areas: Limited seating along the route
Wheelchair Access: Limited due to hills and inclines
🚻 Restrooms: Available at the top of the lawn, including an ADA unit.

🌿 Alternative Option

For those who prefer a more stationary experience, we will also host a FREE Birding from the Bench session on the Great Lawn. This option offers the same opportunity to observe birds, connect with others, and enjoy the day’s programming without navigating the full walking route.
