About this Event
Our 47th Annual Nanticoke Powwow is a vibrant celebration brimming with excitement, color, tapestry, music, and dance. The powwow embodies the Native spiritual belief that life and death follow a continuous sacred circle. Tribal drums, dancing, food, native singing, and traditional healing rituals all contribute to the gathering. It also serves as an opportunity to enact ancient stories passed down through generations, helping to keep our history alive.
The Nanticoke Indian Powwow is an official State of Delaware recognized event focused on preserving indigenous culture and traditions while singing to the Creator, dancing to the rhythm of the drum, and welcoming both Native and non-native participants from the surrounding community. This event raises crucial funds to support the daily operation of our community center, historical museum, annual educational scholarships, weekly food pantry services, and elder care programs that positively impact local communities through various additional programs and services.
In addition to the Nanticoke Indian Tribe, many other Native American tribes, along with non-indigenous people from all over the East Coast, attend our annual event. Based on previous Powwows, we expect up to 10,000 visitors this year.
