4-Day Shirt Making Workshop

Join us for a four-day workshop focusing on shirt-making. You will learn to craft a classic shirt, incorporating essential features such as cuffs, a collar, a yoke, and sleeves. You will be provided with a basic shirt pattern and gain hands-on experience in both cutting and construction. The course will also cover vital techniques and common seams used in the industry, tailored to the fabrics chosen for individual designs.
Your instructors, Louisa and Gintare, are experienced stitching teachers at the Fashion Technology Academy in Islington, which specialises in technical skills training for garment manufacturing, including stitching, production, and pattern cutting.
What You’ll Learn:
Day 1: Foundations of Industrial Sewing
- Understanding the anatomy of industrial sewing machines.
- Safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of common issues.
- Threading, bobbin winding, and mastering stitch tension on a flatbed.
- Practising speed control and precision for professional-quality results.
- Practising straight lines, curves, and corners for precision sewing.
- How to do a lay plan to reduce fabric waste
- Cutting the shirt
Days 2-4: Constructing the shirt
- Adding interfacing.
- How to construct a shirt placket with a cuff.
- How to stitch a collar and a stand.
- How to stitch a placket.
- How to stitch a yoke.

- Skill Level: Intermediate (basic sewing skills required).

Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours before the start of the workshop to receive a refund. Unfortunately, cancellations made within 48 hours will not be eligible for a refund.
