Happy New Year and welcome back to a whole new Friday Milonga at OmCulture.
Please note that we are changing the opening format of this milonga. From now on, we will open doors by 7:15 and run a one-hour class before the dance. These classes will be taught by some of our excellent local teachers who will offer an intermediate/advanced class to give you an idea of their teaching style. There is no charge for the class. OmCulture is offering this both as a means for local teachers to promote themselves and as an opportunity for dancers to learn and socialize prior to the milonga.
We will also occasionally invite well-known teachers from outside Seattle. On February 20, we are happy to host Maestro Maxi Cristiani. For these one-hour classes, we will charge a nominal fee to cover their expenses while in Seattle.
For this dance we will be featuring Danni Nata and Vivek Rao as our teachers. You all know they have a stellar reputation in Seattle. We are excited to see what they have in store for us!
Our DJ this month is the one and only Maria Tverdostup! Here is her own description of what she will bring to the DJ table:
I have been collecting tango music even before I began dancing it - I was drawn to its musical and emotional richness as a former pianist. My music selection is rooted in the golden age but may evolve from there. I deeply care about sound quality and smooth energy transitions over the course of the milonga. When I DJ, my intention is to create an inviting atmosphere for tango lovers of all skills levels, and to support connection and self-expression on the dance floor. I entertain rather than perform or educate!
