HUNTINGTON, WV - The Carter G. Woodson Memorial Foundation, Inc. presents its 32nd Annual Fundraising Banquet Saturday, April 25th, 2026 at 6 p.m. The banquet will be held in the Don Morris Room in the Marshall University Student Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
Introducing our Keynote Speaker: Angela P. Dodson
Angela P. Dodson is an accomplished author, editor, and the CEO of Editorsoncall LLC. A veteran journalist, she served as a senior editor and Style editor for The New York Times and held positions at the Washington Star and the Louisville Courier-Journal. She is the author of Remember the Ladies and the editor of the anthology We Refuse to Be Silent. Her forthcoming book, We’ve Been Here Before, co-authored with her late husband Michael Days, is scheduled for release in June 2026.
Dodson’s extensive career includes serving as executive editor of Black Issues Book Review and hosting the award-winning radio program "Black Catholics, Yes!" A native of Beckley, West Virginia, she holds a bachelor’s degree from Marshall University and a master’s from American University. Dedicated to her roots, she helped establish the Dodson, Dotson, and Hairston scholarship at Marshall University to support underprivileged students from southern West Virginia. She was honored with the Trailblazer Award from the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists in 2018.
Reserved tickets are $40 donation per person, with 8-seat corporate table reservations available for $400. Additional donations are welcome! Funds raised will help the Carter G. Woodson Memorial Foundation provide academic scholarships, and to realize its vision of a Black History and Civil Rights History Museum in Huntington’s Fairfield community, through restoration of the Memphis Tennessee Garrison home.
Tickets may be purchased from a board member or online with our fundraising platform Zeffy: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/32nd-annual-scholarship-fundraising-banquet
We thank you for your continued support.
The cultural entertainment for the banquet is made possible in part by financial support from the Appalachian Freedom Heritage Initiative, a project of the Appalachian Regional Commission. https://appalachianfreedom.com/about-the-project/
