About this Event

2‑Hour Young Pro Investing Game Plan Workshop

You have money sitting in your bank account and no real plan for it.

Not because you are lazy. Because every time you look into it you hit a wall of noise. One friend swears by index funds. Another is up forty percent on some stock he cannot explain. Someone in your group chat lost half their savings on crypto and has gone very quiet. Your parents tell you to buy property. A guy from your polytechnic days keeps messaging you about a "financial review."

So you do nothing. The money sits there. And every year you feel slightly further behind people who seem to have figured it out.

This workshop is for that exact situation.

What this is

First Principles is a small evening series for working professionals in Singapore between 25 and 35. We cap every session at ten people. Not as a marketing tactic. Because past ten, nobody asks the question they actually came to ask.

For this session we have invited a speaker who spent the first part of his career as an engineer, moved into management consulting doing process audits, and has been investing his own money since the day he got his first pay cheque. He is now a licensed financial services professional in Singapore.

What makes him worth two hours of your evening is not that he is in the industry. It is that he approached his own portfolio the way he approached engineering problems. He built a set of rules, tested them against real money, and kept records. He will walk you through that system in full, including the parts that did not work.

What you will walk out with

You will leave with a written one page game plan. Not a vague sense of motivation. An actual document with your numbers on it, showing what you would put in, where, how often, and what would have to happen for you to change course.

Specifically, we will cover:

Why most people your age stay stuck between a high interest savings account and random tips, and what the third option actually looks like.

A framework for evaluating any investment on four dimensions: value, risk, time horizon, and how much of your life it costs you to maintain. This is the filter, and once you have it, most of the noise disappears.

The honest breakdown of the main routes available to someone in Singapore right now, including the ones with bad reputations. We will talk about what is actually true about them, what is fair criticism, and the narrow situations where each one makes sense. No product is being sold in the room.

How someone putting aside five hundred to a thousand dollars a month can compound sensibly over ten to twenty years, and what that realistically looks like at the end.

A live teardown. Bring your current situation and the speaker will work through real numbers on the whiteboard. This is the part people say afterwards was worth the whole evening, and it is the part we cannot do with fifty people in the room.

Who this is for

You are between 25 and 35 and working full time. You have some savings, somewhere between a few thousand and a few tens of thousands sitting idle. You can realistically set aside a few hundred dollars a month. You are analytical by nature and you want to understand the reasoning, not just be told what to do. You are willing to write things down and act within thirty days.

Who this is not for

If you are looking for stock picks, entry prices, or anything resembling a tip, you will be disappointed and you will probably annoy the other nine people. If you are hoping to double your money this year, this is the wrong room. If you are already running a sophisticated portfolio and want advanced tactics, this session will be too foundational for you.

Format

Two hours. Roughly ninety minutes of teaching and worked examples, thirty minutes of open questions where nothing is off limits. Come straight from work. There will be light refreshments.

Important

This is a general educational session. Nothing presented is a recommendation, and no personalised financial advice will be given during the event, since that requires understanding your full circumstances. Any past performance discussed relates to individual experience and is not an indication of future results. All investments carry the risk of loss, including loss of capital.
