At the age of 10, in large part due to his Italian heritage, Tomassetti became interested in the Italian Renaissance Artists and the Classical approach to the craft. Two trips to Italy at age 12 and 14 deepened this influence and impressed on him the history and stories embedded in the works of Renaissance artists.
Tomassetti continued his interest in art at CSU Sacramento in pursuit of an art degree with a focus on studio art and art history. He earned a scholarship to study art and Italian for a year in Florence, Italy. He continued his art pilgrimage by visiting many of the museums and churches of Europe.
Tomassetti earned a second degree from CSU Sacramento in Italian language and literature and a teaching credential. He then embarked on a 32 year career teaching art to elementary and junior high students in the San Juan USD, retiring in 2022. He continues to work on art influenced by modern movements: Post Impressionism, Expressionism, Surrealism, Abstract and Pop.
Tomassetti’s goal is to choose and synthesize experience and understanding of influences into a form of expression that best suits each individual work.
Artist’s Statement:
“Art allows me a path to traverse the experience of exploring, understanding and creating meaning. Along the way, I choose elements to arrange together which articulate and communicate the visual signification of my travels. I feel a reverence for art and I am honored by the opportunity to participate in the eternal dialogue of creative expression.

You can meet Mark Tomassetti at his 2nd Friday ArtAbout reception on October 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
