2nd Annual BE THE ONE River Walk (5K)

American Legion Post 22 in Cocoa, FL, will host this 2nd Annual veterans fundraising walk aimed at reducing the rate of veteran suicide. The American Legion is leading a nationwide effort — “Be the One”— to eliminate the stigma related to mental health treatment, and in turn, lower the number of veterans who die by suicide every day.

The number of veterans who die by suicide every day is estimated at between 17 and 22. The American Legion has elevated Be the One to be its top priority, empowering veterans, servicemembers, their family members and civilians to act appropriately when a veteran may be at risk. This event intends to bring more awareness to the problem while providing resources to those who may be able to help save the life of a veteran.

Last year American Legion Post 22 raised over six thousand dollars for this event and donated all the money raised to Mission 22. Mission 22 provides extensive, personalized support and resources to help Veterans and their families thrive. Mission 22’s programs for Veterans and military spouses offer everything from biometric monitoring of stress, sleep, and activity levels; to meditation and coaching; to exercise programs and a wellness supplement regimen; to books and learning resources to help Veterans put their experience in context.

The 3-mile walk will start at American Legion Post 22, walking along Indian River and through Cocoa Village, returning to finish at Post 22. The route is ADA accessible and follows city crosswalks. Enjoy the beauty of a walk along Indian River, the energy of Cocoa Village, and the camaraderie of friends at the American Legion.

Registered participants will receive a Be The One veterans walk event t-shirt and complimentary drink at the post.
