The 27th Annual Vanderbilt Neurology Stroke and Neuroscience Symposium is the premiere Continuing Medical Education event aimed at improving stroke care in Middle Tennessee. The event will feature a superb lineup of local and internationally recognized leaders in stroke care. Stroke care is evolving rapidly and it is essential that changes in guidelines and in the standard of practice are efficiently communicated. Our panel of speakers will provide updates on a broad range of topics related to acute stroke care, risk factor management and prevention strategies and rehabilitation, emphasizing new guidelines, clinical trial results and identifying areas of expected growth in the field in the coming years.

• State the key priorities for primary stroke prevention based on new guidelines
• Identify the key new clinical trial results and specific changes to clinical practice based on the results
• Understand stroke risk related to pregnancy and appropriate stroke prevention and stroke treatment strategies in this specialized setting
• Improve management and prevention strategies for stroke care in special settings (in the ICU, in the setting of migraine, etc.)

We are pleased to welcome Eliza Miller, MD, MS who will give the Keynote Address, "Stroke Care in Women: A Life Course Approach."

Dr. Eliza Miller completed her medical degree at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, followed by training in Neurology and Vascular Neurology at New York Presbyterian-Columbia University Irving Medical Center and a master’s degree in Patient Oriented Research at Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health. She joined Columbia’s faculty in the Division of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease in 2017 and remained there until 2025. At Columbia, she founded the Mothers Center Neurovascular Clinic, a specialized clinic for coordinated treatment of individuals with cerebrovascular complications during pregnancy and postpartum. In 2025, Dr. Miller transitioned to the University of Pittsburgh to become Chief of the Division of Women’s Neurology, Chief of Neurology at the Magee-Womens Hospital, and the inaugural recipient of the UPMC Endowed Chair in Women’s Brain Health.

Dr. Miller’s research focuses on cerebrovascular complications of preeclampsia and other adverse pregnancy outcomes, using both physiological and epidemiological approaches. She holds research grants from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute for Child Health and Development, and the National Institute on Aging, and she was the 2018 recipient of the American Heart Association’s Robert G. Siekert New Investigator Award. Most recently, she was recognized with a “Genius Award” from the Helen Gurley Brown Foundation for her dedication to improving women’s brain health.
