Hong Kong to Yangshuo: Train & Bike EscapeHigh-speed rail, limestone peaks, quiet roads, great food
Leave the city behind on Friday morning with a smooth high-speed train from Hong Kong West Kowloon, arriving deep in Guangxi’s karst country by lunchtime. From there, we ride straight into the landscape that has defined Chinese painting and poetry for centuries.
This is a relaxed but immersive long weekend combining train travel, cycling, scenery, and food — designed so you can simply show up and enjoy the ride.
We begin near Xingping, climbing from the famous bend in the Li River toward Xianggongshan, where sunrise draws mist from the river and wraps the peaks in slow-moving cloud. We stay just below the summit — perfect for photographers, early risers, or anyone who enjoys watching a landscape wake up.
Day two explores Yangshuo’s remote uplands: quiet limestone backroads, small villages, orchards, and paddy fields, before descending into the lush Yulong Valley. Here we ride beside the river, cross the 400-year-old Jade Dragon (Moon) Bridge, and stay in a beautifully restored Qing-dynasty village home, now a boutique hotel.
Sunday is gentle and unhurried: a loop ride through Yulong river villages, out toward Moon Hill and the Jinbao River, followed by lunch, a shower, and an easy transfer back to Yangshuo station.
