The West Springfield St. Patrick’s Parade Committee is proud to host our annual golf tournament, and this year, we gather to honor the memory of a truly remarkable member of our community, James "Jim" Martin, who passed away this past St. Patrick's Day.
Jim dedicated his life and career to lifting up others in our town. As the former Supervisor of Special Education for West Springfield, he spent years ensuring that local children received the care, advocacy, and education they deserved. His commitment to service didn't stop at the school doors; Jim was a pillar of the West Springfield Lions Club for nearly half a century, serving four terms as President and receiving the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow award for his humanitarian work.
But many in town will remember Jim best through the beautiful music that defined his vibrant spirit. A proud champion of his Irish heritage, Jim spent over 40 years as a dedicated member of the Springfield Kiltie Band, marching in countless parades and filling the New England air with the sound of the bagpipes. Whether he was playing a lively tune at the John Boyle O'Reilly Club or performing at local social events, Jim brought people together through a shared love of culture and community.
It is only fitting that we celebrate his legacy of service, music, and Irish pride out on the green. We hope you will join us to remember an incredible neighbor, a passionate community leader, and a dear friend.
