The festival opens with a bold celebration of the saxophone. Philip Glass’s hypnotic Saxophone Quartet unfolds in four contrasting movements—lyrical, rhythmically charged, intimate, and exuberant—showcasing the instrument’s extraordinary colour and vitality.Ignacy Zalewski’s mono no aware, a special festival commission and world premiere, offers a fragile, haunting meditation on loss, where delicate motifs and suspended harmonies linger like fading memories.
David Maslanka’s deeply spiritual Recitation Book draws on sacred chorales and Renaissance echoes, weaving a powerful five-movement journey of reflection and renewal.
Performed by Malta’s leading Melika Saxophone Quartet, renowned for their dynamic artistry and festival
