Home IPM Workshop - August 6, 2026
Urban and structural pest management is the protection of property, food, and health from insect and rodent pests commonly found in homes, restaurants, and other businesses. Ultimately, pest management is about problem solving. It involves the collection of information, analysis of the data and development of a strategy to resolve (or prevent) a pest problem (R. D. Kramer, in Mallis Handbook). This simple definition captures the essence of Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
Decisions concerning the management and prevention of pest infestations should always be knowledge-based. IPM, then, is a decision-making process driven by information collected during an inspection. Because the quality, and thus effectiveness, of the decisions made in an IPM program are only as good as the information on which the decisions are made, inspections are the cornerstone of IPM programs.
The goal of the Home IPM workshop is to teach participants how to generate and interpret the information needed for effective IPM programs in the home environment. The workshop addresses the development of critical thinking skills required for pest management professionals to develop an IPM mind-set.

School IPM Workshop - August 20, 2026
School environments are widely defined as those buildings or businesses that educate and/or where people aggregate for defined periods of time during the day for the purpose of education.
Across the U.S., pest management in school environments has received a great deal of attention, and in some states pest management professionals must be able to show proficiency in managing pests in schools, through some form of documentation, in addition to any rules their state requires. In Georgia, the management of pests in schools is regulated by the Rules and Regulations of the Georgia Structural Pest Control Act of 1953. To this end the School IPM Workshop serves to engage pest management professionals in a day long workshop aimed at helping them interpret and design their School pest management services in light of Georgia's Rules.
