About this Event

Story Discovery at Scale gathers a growing cohort of journalists, developers, researchers, and product thinkers to explore the latest in computational journalism. Come help us turn cutting-edge experiments into projects we can work on together.

This year's event takes place April 9-10 at Stanford University. Sponsored by The Knight Foundation, Story Discovery at Scale is designed for participants to share exciting work, inspire each other with new ideas, and lay the foundation for collaborative projects that build a sustainable infrastructure for local news.

You can look forward to:

- project shares that show off tools to use now and help build for the future

- talks and panels that expand our sense of what's possible—and what's needed most—in technology for journalism

- working groups that synthesize great ideas into real-world collaborations, product outlines, and jobs to be done

We will finalize this year's program and speakers as we get closer to the event, working with participants to develop an agenda around topics like: AI tools for data analysis and story discovery, emerging products in documents and data from government meetings, and collaborative efforts to protect disappearing data and build new datasets from the ground up.

Registration: There is no registration fee, but because of space limitations, this is an invitation-only event. Please reserve your spot through this event page by clicking the button on the right—we don’t want to miss everything you have to contribute to Story Discovery At Scale.

Travel assistance: We are able to provide a certain amount of financial support for attendees traveling from outside the Bay Area, if cost would be a hardship. (We are not able to provide local travel support.) We will follow up with all registered participants with a form to help you request travel assistance.
