About this Event
We are pleased to announce the 2026 Postmortem Research in Dementia Workshop, a unique two-day forum convening researchers, clinicians, and trainees as well as forensic pathologists and medical examiners at the intersection of in vivo neuroimaging and postmortem neuropathology. Hosted at NYU Langone Health in New York City on August 13–14, 2026, the workshop will feature innovative tools and resources for integrating postmortem insights with in vivo imaging research in Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD).
Theme of the Workshop
The two-day program features nine focused scientific sessions on critical topics including:
- Recent in vivo clinical and neuroimaging breakthroughs in dementia (past 5 years).
- Neuropathology insights across dementia subtypes and medicolegal contexts.
- Advanced ex vivo imaging: optimized protocols, tools, and quality control.
- Advanced histology methods and brain tissue processing/analysis.
- Cross-modal integration of in vivo findings with postmortem research in TBI and other dementias.
- Normal aging versus pathological aging: Trajectories, biomarkers, and differential role of dementia.
- Tools and resources for dementia research and education: digital autopsy and image library.
- ARIA insights: Leveraging postmortem evidence to guide therapeutic strategies and clinical trial safety.
- Expert panels highlighting critical gaps, evolving priorities, and future directions in the field
For Early-Career Investigators and Trainees
This workshop offers exceptional opportunities for professional development:
- Three oral sessions and two poster sessions to showcase your research
- In-person interactions and networking with leading experts
- Competitive Travel Awards and Young Investigator Awards to support your participation
Abstract Submission
Abstracts are welcomed from researchers at all career levels. Whether you present preliminary findings, newly developed protocols, or novel analytical approaches, the workshop provides a platform to share your research with an engaged audience of experts.
