Built in 1833, the Historic SDG Jail served as a maximum- and minimum-security jail until it closed in 2002. Once known as the Cornwall Jail, it now welcomes visitors as the Historic SDG Jail—owned and operated by the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. As one of the oldest facilities of its kind in Ontario, the jail stands as an iconic landmark and a stark reminder of a dark and unforgiving past. Designated a heritage site in 2001, the jail has been carefully preserved to protect its unique story, ensuring a captivating and educational experience for all who walk through its doors.
The jail has been open for season public tours since 2004 and continues to offer unique experiences and events for visitors. Please explore our website and follow us on social media for up to date tour options, rates, and special events!Recommended age for this event is 12+.
