The Farrer Memorial Trust invites you to join us in celebrating 90 years of the distinguished Farrer Memorial Medal at one of New South Wales' most iconic venues, the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.
Hear from the 2026 Farrer Memorial Medal Recipient, R. Jeff Esdaile AM, as he delivers his oration on his incredible career of exceptional leadership and influence in the development of conservation farming, no-till agriculture and sustainable production systems. Through his pioneering work, Jeff has helped transform farming practices across Australia, delivering lasting benefits to agricultural productivity, sustainability and resilience.
The Farrer Memorial Trust was established in 1911 to perpetuate the memory of William James Farrer, Plant Breeder, and to provide encouragement and inspiration to those engaged in agricultural science in cropping. One of William Farrer’s ideals was “aiming high and making an impact”. He was one of the pioneers of agricultural cropping research and development in Australia.
Jeff joins a long line of distinguished Farrer Memorial Medal recipients since the award was first established in 1936. You can find out more about past recipients here.
Jeff's work at the University of Sydney’s Livingston Farm near Moree championed innovative farming practices that improved soil health, enhanced water conservation and strengthened the long-term sustainability of grain production. His commitment to research, development and extension has left a lasting legacy on Australian agriculture.
This event is brought to you by the Farrer Memorial Trust, the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, and the University of Sydney. Please join us as we celebrate 90 years of the Farrer Memorial Medal.
