The annual Bells of Summer at the University of Chicago returns for its 60th season! Between June 28 and August 16, you can enjoy a free carillon concert by a different carillonist/duo from across the country every Sunday 5–6 pm (for 8 weeks). Listening outside on the east lawn is highly recommended, where you can bring a picnic with a blanket or some chairs and hear the original sound from the tower!
After each concert, there is a free tower tour (30–45 min) leading you up the 271 steps to the top. (Suggested donation: $5.) You will climb the spiral staircase, see the other side of the chapel ceiling, greet the 72 bells including the "Big Laura," watch a live playing demo, enjoy the 360º view from the rooftop, and more!
Performers:
June 28: Austin Ferguson (Minnesota)
July 5: Erika Anderson (California)
July 12: Mitchell Stecker (Pennsylvania)
July 19: Michael Dixon (Indiana)
July 26: Carlo van Ulft (Illinois)
August 2: Chi Ian Jess Ip (Massachusetts)
