About this Event
This year’s symposium, Wired Minds, Legal Lines: Governing Neurotechnology, will bring together leading voices in law, neuroscience, technology, and policy to address the urgent questions raised by brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). As these innovations advance, they raise profound issues surrounding privacy, intellectual property, criminal liability, health regulation, and ethics in the governance of neurotechnology.
Featured Speaker: Francis X Shen, JD, PhD. Dr. Shen is a Professor of Law and Faculty Member in the Graduate Program in Neuroscience at the University of Minnesota, and co-directs the Neurotech Justice Accelerator at Mass General Brigham. He received his JD from Harvard Law School and his PhD from Harvard University. His research explores the legal and ethical implications of advances in neuroscience, neurotechnology, and artificial intelligence. Bioethics areas of interest include: neuroethics, research ethics, and technology and AI ethics. Dr. Shen was awarded the Early Career Scholars Medal by the American Law Institute, one of two medals awarded every other year, for his work as a pioneer in establishing the interdisciplinary field of law and neuroscience. We are so honored to have him join us, along with our many other distinguished panelists.
