Why Attend

Aims of the Workshop:

  1. To enhance clinicians’ confidence and competence in performing and interpreting point-of-care cranial, liver and lung ultrasound in neonates.
  2. To promote safe and effective use of bedside ultrasound for the assessment of critically ill neonates.
  3. To support accurate tip confirmation of umbilical venous and arterial catheters using ultrasound.
  4. To foster interdisciplinary collaboration and discussion between neonatologists, Paediatricians, ANNPs/ENNPs, and Paediatric radiologists.
  5. To encourage integration of ultrasound imaging into daily neonatal clinical practice.

Day 1 – Neonatal Cranial Ultrasound & targeted Liver scan

Objectives:

  • Understand the principles and indications for cranial ultrasound in neonates.
  • Identify normal and abnormal cranial ultrasound findings
  • Gain hands-on experience in cranial ultrasound technique on the intelligent ultrasound simulators
  • Recognise key anatomical landmarks and interpret common pathologies on ultrasound.
  • Discuss challenging cases with experts in neonatal neuroimaging and radiology.

· Understand the basics of the Point of Care Neonatal Liver Scan

· Identify normal hepatic structures and recognise common artefacts.


Day 2 – Neonatal Lung Ultrasound & Umbilical Lines Tip Confirmation

  • Objectives:

Understand the utility and limitations of lung ultrasound in assessing respiratory conditions

Acquire hands-on experience in lung ultrasound image acquisition and interpretation.

Learn the role of ultrasound in the confirmation of umbilical catheter position, with emphasis on real-time tip localisation.

Develop skills in integrating ultrasound findings into clinical decision-making.

Interact with expert faculty to review real-life cases and best practice guidelines.

13:00-13:40 - Cranial ultrasound findings (Asphyxia, IVH, PHVD, PVL, infection, GA assessment)
13:40-14:40 - Hands-on practice – diagnosing clinical conditions on simulator
14:40-15:00 - Case-based scenarios
15:00-15:15 - Coffee/tea break
15:15-15:45 - Liver Scan – Basic anatomy/structures/artefacts
15:45-16:45 - Hands-on practice in 2 groups
16:45-17:00 - Conclusion
17:00 - End of the day

11:15-12:00 - Pneumonia, MAS, CLD, Pleural effusion, Pulmonary Haemorrhage, atelectasis

12:00-12:45 - Lunch

12:45-14:15 - Hands-on practice in 2 groups

14:15-14:45 - Confirming umbilical venous & arterial line tip position

14:45-15:45 - Hands-on practice in 2 groups

15:45-16:00 - Tea/coffee break

16:00-16:45 - Case-based scenarios

16:45-17:00 - Conclusion
17:00 - End of the day
