Yes, you can make music anywhere these days. But understanding how a proper studio works, microphones, signal flow, recording decisions still makes a huge difference. Together, we explore the art and craft of studio production

The studio is located in Kreuzberg and has been used by artists such as IDLES, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Blue Man Group, Kreator, Milliarden, Trail of Dead, Lee Ranaldo, Anna Calvi and many others. You’ll work in the same rooms, with the same tools, and see how professional sessions actually run!

This workshop is made for people who:

• Are new to music production
• Play an instrument or write songs and want to record them
• Have tried producing but feel a bit lost
• Want to understand how recording studios really work

You don’t need experience. You just need interest and curiosity.

By the end of the two days, you’ll:

• Understand basic recording concepts and signal flow
• Learn how to place microphones
• Learn how different microphones influence tone
• How placement can completely change the character of an instrument
• Record audio in a professional studio
• Get an intro to mixing (EQ, compression, balance)
• Learn how a basic mix is finished and exported
• Understand how a real session is structured from start to finish

This is a practical workshop how to make confident recording decisions that serve the music instead of fighting it later.

Small group, hands-on, no rushing.

We’ll work hands-on in a real studio and record an existing song from start to first chorus (not the whole song).
Even if you come with friends or bandmates, we won’t record personal projects. The goal is to learn the process, not finish your own track.

We will work with pre-recorded vocals, while instruments will be recorded in real-time, by the hosts.

• Equipment & microphone basics
• Recording session
• Editing and session organization

Day 2

• Mixing basics
• EQ, compression & effects
• Finalizing a simple mix
• Questions & feedback

The schedule stays flexible depending on the group dynamics.

You’ll work with:

• Professional microphones
• Audio interfaces
• DAW software
• Studio monitors & headphones
• Basic outboard gear

No need to bring anything unless you want to.

You’ll leave with:

• A solid understanding of recording basics
• Real studio experience
• More confidence to work on your own music
• A clear idea of what to learn next

Lunch and snacks are not included, but there are plenty of good places nearby that we can go together and eat and chat about recording and mixing, and all good stuff.

❌ Not ideal if you focus on:
Techno, EDM, Trap, modern electronic production

• Full refund: cancellations made at least 3 days (72 hours) before the workshop start time (Saturday, 11:00) will receive a 100% refund.
• Late cancellation: no refund
• Partial attendance: no partial refunds
• Special cases: In the event of an emergency or missed second day, we are happy to discuss saving your spot for a future workshop cycle or providing credit toward a different studio session.

Spots are limited to 8 people, so cancellations are hard to replace.

In case the workshop is canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, we will provide replacement dates.
