A scholarship fundraiser, the evening will feature a presentation of our 2025 Henry Cowherd Scholarship Recipients from area high schools!*
We'll also present the 2025 Emerging Leaders of the Year, NIA Award Recipients, Lifetime Achievement Honorees, and the Scheketa Hart-Burns Leader of the Year: Michael Pegues!
Born and raised in Aurora, Michael is a graduate of West Aurora High School who had a stellar career in the United States Army before transitioning to the IT world in corporate America at several Fortune 100 companies. He returned home and assumed the role of Chief Information Officer at the City of Aurora in 2017 and has led transformative initiatives in innovation and technology for his hometown, including launching the Aurora STEAM Academy which provides free tech courses for thousands of Aurora youth. He is also the Chairman of the Quad County African American Chamber of Commerce, supporting Black-owned businesses in the greater Aurora area. In 2024, Michael was named one of the Top 10 Government CIOs in America!
