Join us on Oct. 17 - 19 as artists from across the River Region and beyond bring their creative spirits and fresh perspectives to our hometown for the 13th annual Pike Road Plein Air Paint Out. Plein air painting is fast-paced, outside (plein air is French for “outdoors”) and focuses on landscapes and scenes' ever-changing light and colors. Pike Road Arts Council Coordinator, Patty Payne, welcomes and invites the whole community to join in the fun of the Pike Road, Alabama 2024 Paint Out featuring Alabama Plein Air Artists. This year’s theme is “Hidden Pike Road: Off the Beaten Path." Participating artists will be out and about during the weekend, capturing the unique rural charm and treasured community characteristics that make the Town of Pike Road such a special place to live and visit. We encourage everyone to stop, say hello, and share that Pike Road “Welcome Home” hospitality as artists disperse and paint around the Town. We look forward to seeing the familiar faces of artists who have been painting with us for the last 13 years, and we welcome new artists joining us for the first time! Thursday, October 17, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. : Registration for Quick Draw at Sweet Creek Farm Market
- Artists, residents, and visitors are encouraged to gather at Sweet Creek Farm Market (85 Meriwether Road, Pike Road, AL 36064) for the kick-off to the Plein Air weekend with a Quick Draw. Stop by the Pike Road Arts Center table at the outdoor pavilion to get your canvas stamped!

*Artists - Bring your art to the Wet Room at the Pike Road Arts Center (944 Wallahatchie Road) before Blended Brushes.
Thursday, October 17, 3 - 8 p.m. : Artist Registration for Pike Road Plein Air Paint Out
*Artists- Come get your snacks and stamps when you check in at the Pike Road Arts Center (944 Wallahatchie Road)! All art submitted for the Plein Air Wet Paint Art Show must be stamped by PRAC on Friday or Saturday.
Thursday, October 17, 5 - 7 p.m. : Blended Brushes
- Professional Plein Air artists Barbara Binford Davis and Perry Austin work together to complete two paintings in less than 90 minutes. At the start of time, each artist will work on painting a landscape on their own canvas. Halfway through the 90 minutes, each artist will switch and finish the other artist’s painting! Two lucky people will get to take home these works of art after the drawing on Saturday evening.
Reception included.
Friday, October 18 : ARTISTS WILL BE PAINTING AROUND TOWN ALL DAY!
- Look for artists across town in their special edition Plein Air Paint Out T-Shirt. T-shirts and notecards will be available to the public for purchase during the weekend at the Pike Road Arts Center. Stop by or email Patty for more information about purchasing a t-shirt or note card set. Proceeds from t-shirt and note card sales will go towards future Pike Road Arts Council programming.
Friday, October 18, 7:00 a.m. : Artist Registration
- Come get a light breakfast and stamps when you check in at the PRAC! All art submitted for the Plein Air Wet Paint Art Show must be stamped by PRAC on Friday or Saturday.
*Artists - JFM Frames will be at Founders Station (4902 Pike Road, Pike Road, AL 36064) at 10:00 a.m. to assist with framing your Plein Air pieces.
Friday, October 18, 10:00 a.m. : Sketching Nature Live Painting Demo with Leslie Brasher.
- Bring a lawn chair and join us at Anne Freeman's Farm (2230 Pike Road, Pike Road, AL 36064) for a live plein air painting
demonstration with artists Leslie Brasher. Leslie's process can be used to record what you see on a trip or hike or to make small studies for later use in your art.
- Open to the Public! Sketchbooks and pencils will be available for those wishing to participate, while supplies last.
