Cannabis is Medicine: Bridging the Gap! Learn to break the stigma and talk to our children and elders about plant medicine
About this Event

Welcome to the 10th Annual Cannabis is Medicine event! For a decade, we have explored a wide range of topics, from the endocannabinoid system and dispensary optimization to the fight for Black and Latinx representation in health. For our 10th annual discussion, we are addressing a critical, yet often overlooked, challenge: the generational communication gap with cannabis.

As cannabis use becomes increasingly normalized, the way we communicate about it at home is lagging behind the reality of its presence in our communities. We are facing a significant lack of clinical guidance for our elders and a critical need for transparent, age-appropriate dialogue with our youth.

Alongside this year’s critical conversation, we invite you to step into our Wellness Activations, curated to rejuvenate your body, mind, and spirit. Healing spans generations, and so does our relationship with the earth. These experiential spaces go beyond the dialogue, offering you hands-on opportunities to ground yourself, relieve stress, and establish a deeper, more enriching connection with plant medicine. Whether you are beginning your holistic journey or deepening an existing practice, join us to experience the transformative power of the plants firsthand.

The Reality Behind the Elders and Youth Gaps

Recent data highlights an obvious need for better education and open communication across generations:

1. The Aging Gap (Older Adults & Cannabis)

Cannabis use among older adults is rising rapidly, with 21% of adults aged 50 and older reporting use in the past year, according to the University of Michigan National Poll on Healthy Aging from 2024. However, fewer than 1 in 5 older adults discuss their cannabis use with a healthcare provider, often hiding it due to stigma or a lack of clinical guidance. Furthermore, many seniors are unaware of how much THC potency has increased over the decades, leaving them vulnerable to accidental overconsumption and adverse interactions with prescription medications.

2. The Youth Gap (Children & Parental Use)

A recent national study analyzing data from almost 482,000 United States individuals estimated 5.9 million children currently live in a household where a parent uses cannabis on most days. As daily parental use becomes more normalized, millions of families find themselves navigating environments where cannabis is physically present, yet honest conversations about the plant are rare. This rapidly changing landscape highlights a critical need for transparent, age-appropriate education at home regarding safe storage, legality, and developing brains.

3. The Communication Disconnect (Parents vs. Youth)

According to a recent report, nearly 90% of parents believe they have established clear, structured rules against substance misuse; youth risk surveys reveal that teenagers often report a completely different reality, showing significant confusion over family boundaries and expectations. Parents frequently express a strong desire to set safe boundaries but report that they simply do not know how to effectively talk to their children about cannabis risks or their own personal medical use.

Whether it’s helping a grandparent navigate medical cannabis for chronic pain without feeling ashamed, or having honest conversations with our children about safe storage, legalities, and developing brains, education is our best tool.

Join us for a powerful afternoon featuring expert-led panels, complementary wellness activations, and community connection. Together, we will learn how to break the stigma, close the knowledge gap, and foster healthy, informed discussions that protect and empower our families.

This is a unique opportunity to get your questions answered and deepen your understanding. Tickets are FREE, but an RSVP is required!!!
