Repot, style, and take home a beginner friendly, low-light, drought-tolerant bonsai.
About this Event

Learn basic bonsai techniques to start transforming plants into bonsai. Learn why it is important to have a good soil mix, root-prune, repot, and choose the right angles when repotting. Take this knowledge home and apply it to other plants as well.

In this class we will work on the Mistletoe Fig, also known as 'Dolly' (here at the bonsai shop).

'Dolly' the Mistletoe Fig is known for fig shaped berries, interesting patterns, and a fox mask symbol on the underside of the leaves. It is believed to have healing properties in some parts of the world and the leaves are good luck in Feng Shui. We agree!

Symbolism: The top and underside of the leaves are so different, we think this is an appropriate symbol for diversity and concealed connotations. The two sides, which belong to a single entity, embody the concept of oneness in duality.

Growth style and care: Dolly has a main trunk that supports many well spaced branches that can be wired and shaped. It is a good candidate for making a slanting style or semi-cascade style bonsai.

This class is for beginners to intermediate.

TOTAL SEATS: 6

Materials Provided: One handmade small bonsai planter in speckled white or midnight black, one bonsai tree, soil, decorative rocks, necessary tools for repotting. Other materials on site available for purchase.
