100th Commemoration of the Polk County Gold Star Memorial

Join us to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Polk County Gold Star Memorial, a historic Des Moines monument dedicated in September 1926 to honor 163 Polk County servicemen who gave their lives during and following World War I.
This special centennial commemoration will bring together community members, veterans, local leaders, historians, and families to remember and thank those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
- WHEN: Sunday, September 13, 2026, 1:30 p.m.
- WHERE: 635 E. University Avenue, Des Moines. Parking is available across the street at Carver Elementary (705 E University Ave.)
- DETAILS: A brief military ceremony will serve as a time of remembrance and rededication, including posting of the colors, a roll call of the Gold Star names, a ceremonial wreath laying, and rifle salute.
Capitol Park Neighborhood is proud to host this event in partnership with the 100th Anniversary Planning Committee.
