Iowa-Yucatan 60th Anniversary Celebration
About this Event
Join Us for the Iowa-Yucatan 60th Anniversary Celebration!
¡Por sesenta años de una hermosa amistad! (To 60 years of a beautiful friendship!)
THE EVENT IS FREE and includes access to the Botanical Center dome and grounds.
In 1964 a federal program called Partners of the Americas was founded to connect volunteers, along with public and private institutions, to implement programs in Latin America and the Caribbean. The State of Iowa was partnered with the State of Yucatán on September 24, 1965. Communities in each state quickly organized with eager and open hearts. Iowans and Yucatecans continued this beloved partnership for 60 years through a multitude of exchanges and long-distance friendships, elevating the quality of lives in both states.
This celebration will gather friends old and new to culminate the 60th year of the Iowa-Yucatán (Mexico) partnership! The celebration is welcome to all and will feature displays highlighting the history of the Iowa-Yucatán partnership, cultural artifacts and Yucatecan entertainment.
This event hosted by the Iowa Yucatan Partners of the Americas and is supported by the Iowa Partner State Program, managed by the Iowa Economic Development Authority in collaboration with its cultural collaborator, the Iowa International Center.
