⏰ Meet at 7:30 AM (Cookeville area) or 10:15am sharp and the Honey Creek Trailhead (the trail is in EST)
Alright you wild trail goblins… this one is not your casual stroll through the woods. This is one of those hikes where at some point you will absolutely say, “Well… this escalated quickly.”
We are heading out to Honey Creek Loop, one of the most unique and adventurous trails in the region. People describe it as feeling like you stepped into another world. Expect caves, rock houses, cliffs, giant boulders, creek crossings, ladders, and some very fun scrambling along the way. People say it's the best hike in TN.
As Keith perfectly put it:
“It’s rocky and slightly technical with small areas to climb up… kind of like a jungle gym. Lots to see, like another world. You will feel like Indiana Jones.”
So yes… basically Indiana Jones but with more photos and less running from giant boulders.
🥾 Trail Details
• Approximately 4.5 mile loop- extra .5 if we do the waterfall
• Around 830 ft elevation gain
• Rated Moderate to Hard
• Expect rock scrambling, water crossings, and uneven terrain
This is not a beginner trail. If you are brand new to hiking or uncomfortable with climbing over rocks or navigating tricky terrain, this probably is not the one to start with.
🚗 Carpools and Meeting Time
Carpools will be organized ahead of time, so please comment if you want to carpool so we can coordinate drivers and riders.
We will be meeting in the Cookeville area at 7:30 AM at the latest and will need to leave promptly. Because the trail is in the Eastern Time Zone, that timing should put us at the trailhead around 10:15 AM Eastern.
‼️ We will not be able to delay the group start since this hike takes a while and we want to be sure we have plenty of time to complete it and most importantly, enjoy it. 📷
If you prefer to drive yourself, please plan to meet us at the trailhead at 10:15 AM Eastern sharp so we can begin the hike together.
⏳ Time Expectation
This is an adventure hike, not a quick walk. Keith estimates it will take around 5 hours for reasonably skilled hikers due to the terrain, scrambling, and exploring along the way.
🎒 What to Bring
• Plenty of water
• Snacks or lunch
• Hiking boots with good grip
• Shoes or water shoes you don’t mind getting wet
• Extra socks (water crossings happen)
• Layers depending on weather
• Trekking poles if you use them
• Headlamp or flashlight just in case
• Phone with offline map downloaded
• A sense of adventure
Things you may encounter:
• Creek crossings
• Mud
• Boulder scrambling
• Ladder climbs
• Cave like rock formations
• Occasional “Wait… where did the trail go?” moments
Cell service can be spotty, so downloading the map ahead of time is recommended.
📸 This trail is known for incredible scenery, rock formations, and hidden corners of the forest. Bring your camera because there are some very cool spots along this loop.
If you want to join the adventure, comment below if you want to carpool or if you plan to meet at the trailhead.
Again, if you are a beginner, I strongly suggest you sit this one out. Unfortunately, no one will be able to carry you through this.
Let’s go play in the woods and pretend we’re in an adventure movie.
