🗑️🌱 Steelhead Creek Community Cleanup, 8/22/26

Please join RCWA, Vice Mayor Karina Talamantes, Caltrans and Reclamation District 1000 for this HUGE cleanup along the banks of beautiful Steelhead Creek. We need all hands on deck as we clear the channel for the Salmon 🐟🐟🐟 and improve other wildlife habitat by removing trash and invasive vegetation such as Red Sesbania and Aquatic Primrose. 🗑️🌱
The office of the Vice Mayor has also graciously agreed to provide all cleanup supplies, including gloves, trash grabbers, buckets, trash bags, and donuts for volunteers. Thank you!
The work site will be on the RIGHT/WEST bank of Steelhead Creek, near the confluence with Arcade Creek. We will meet at the levee gate on the WEST side of Steelhead Creek. PLEASE be on time (early ok) since we have to lock the gate behind us. At 8:30 am SHARP, we will caravan to the cleanup site. Late comers will not be accommodated. Folks that might need to leave early are welcome.
In addition to our collaboration with the office of Vice Mayor Karina Talamantes, our great partners at Reclamation District 1000 have agreed to haul off all trash and debris removed by volunteers and Caltrans has agreed to market and fiscally sponsor the event!
AGE LIMIT: This event is not suitable for minors under 14 years old. Minors 14 and older are invited, but must be supervised by a responsible adult during the entire event.
There will be plenty of hard-core badgering (digging out the big stuff), but also lots of easy detail work along the flat floodplain above the creek. We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves - a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. Shovels, rakes and cultivators would also be helpful, if you have them.
As there is water in the creek and side channels, participants will be required to wear rain boots or waders if they intend to get into the water. Entry into any waters is always optional.
As with all events shared on RCWA, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.
