Rehearsals: Begin in spring (schedule based on cast availability)
What to Expect at Auditions
• Short group warm-up to get everyone moving
• Simple choreography taught on the spot to see energy and movement
Vocal auditions:
• Bring 16–32 bars of a song of your choice that best shows your voice, range, and personality
• Songs do not need to be from the show
• You may sing a cappella or with a backing track
• There will be no live accompanist
Callbacks will be scheduled at auditions, and selected performers will be given songs and scenes from TURN to prepare for callbacks.
Sides (short scenes) will be available for anyone who would like to read.
What to Bring
• Comfortable clothes for moving
• Water
• A song of your choice that shows your strengths
• A positive attitude and willingness to try new things
About the Show
TURN is an original romantic musical dramedy blending classic Broadway flair with modern energy. It’s a story about love, showbiz, family, and the messy twists of life.
• This will be the original Off Off Off Broadway cast
• Over the winter, we will record an original cast album
• Spring rehearsals will lead into performances in late May and early June
• We will continue sharing select demos and snippets on social media leading up to auditions
Character List
ANTHONY – A shy gringo boy in his mid-teens who overcomes his shyness and becomes a bilingual Spanish and English song-and-dance man. Ages into his 40s
NELLY – An easygoing hippy chick and singer. Ages into her 40s
BEATNIK CHORUS – Three overly dramatic performance artists who serve as the show’s modern Greek chorus. They take their art very seriously and comment on the action with intensity, poetry, and humor.
• ADRIAN – The snarky, opinionated Beatnik
• BOBBY – The confused but sincere Beatnik
• CAT – The confident leader of the Beatniks, speaks in 90s slang
ERIC – Anthony’s lifelong friend, singer and musician in a teen garage band. Ages into his 40s
STEVE – A no-nonsense tough guy, singer and musician in a teen garage band. Ages into his 40s
ROSA – Teen Latina seductress and Anthony’s first love interest. Bilingual or some knowledge of Spanish preferred
SEÑORITA CIMINO – An eccentric, motherly middle-aged woman. Dance instructor and Spanish as a second language teacher. Can be played by any gender
ENSEMBLE – 10–20 strong dancers and or singers
KID #1 – 10 to early teens
KID #2 – 7–10 years old
KID #3 – 6–9 years old
