🤓 Με τον όρο Balboa σήμερα αναφερόμαστε στους Swing χορους που γεννήθηκαν στα 30's στη Νότια Καλιφόρνια (ο χορός Swing) και στη χερσόνησο Balboa (ο χορός Balboa ή Balboa shuffle). Εκείνη την εποχή η νεολαία συνέρρεε στο Balboa, ένα παραλιακό θέρετρο στη νότια Καλιφόρνια, για να περάσει τις διακοπές της και να χορέψει στα ασφυκτικά γεμάτα club. Εξ ου και η κλειστή θέση στην οποία χορεύεται, αλλά και η ενέργεια που μπορεί να αποκτήσει!
(ENG) Nowadays, Balboa dance refers to the Swing dances formed in the 1930's in Southern California (the dance “Swing”) and the Balboa peninsula (the dance “Balboa” or “Balboa shuffle”). A summer resort and party destination in Southern California, Balboa was where the youth would flock to spend their Spring Break and dance in the jam-packed clubs...hence the closed embrace connection and the explosive energy the dance can have!
💫 Jonathan Ng
Jonathan Ng is a Balboa, Lindy Hop, Collegiate Shag, and Solo Jazz dancer based in Brooklyn, New York. He strives to give students the tools to develop their own unique voice in the dance by sharing the values of conversation, musicality, and play in each class he teaches. With a background as a jazz violinist, Jonathan approaches swing dancing with the same core philosophy as he would playing on the bandstand: the best ideas are born out of a combination of great technique and the willingness to explore beyond it.

Η Αλεξάνδρα απο το 2010 που ανακάλυψε τους Swing χορούς είναι ενεργό και ενθουσιώδες μέλος της Αθηναϊκής Swing σκηνής. Έχει εντρυφήσει στο Lindy Hop και εξερευνήσει το Authentic solo Jazz και Rhythm Tap, συμμετέχοντας μεταξύ άλλων στο Rhythm Hoppers Chorus Line και Performers. Τελικά την κέρδισε το Balboa και το 2019 δημιούργησε μαζί με τον Γιώργο το project Athens Balboa, με στόχο τη δημιουργία μιας ενεργής Αθηναϊκής σκηνής Balboa.
(ENG) Alexandra discovered Swing dancing in 2010, and ever since she has been an enthusiastic active member of the Athenian swing dance scene. She has explored Lindy Hop, Authentic Jazz and Rhythm Tap, and amongst others has been a member of Rhythm Hoppers Chorus Line and Performers. In 2019 she co-created the project Athens Balboa, with the goal of creating an active Athenian Balboa scene.

Δημιουργήσαμε τους Hoppers με σκοπό να διαδώσουμε τους Αφροαμερικανικούς Jazz χορούς – Authentic Jazz Dance και Lindy Hop – στην Ελλάδα και διεθνώς. Με σεβασμό προς την πολιτιστική κληρονομιά και τους δημιουργούς αυτών των χορών, φιλοδοξούμε να διαμορφώσουμε έναν χώρο που προάγει την Jazz κουλτούρα, εστιάζοντας στη ρυθμικότητα, τον αυτοσχεδιασμό, την ελευθερία έκφρασης, την ομαδικότητα και τη συμπερίληψη. (ENG) We created Hoppers with the aim of spreading African American Jazz dances, Authentic Jazz Dance and Lindy Hop, in Greece and abroad.
