The session is 12.30 - 3pm but we appreciate some families may be late due to nursery pick up and some may need to leave early due to school pick up; the core activities such as tool use and campfire cooking will be from 1 - 2.30pm, 12.30 - 1 and 2.30 - 3pm we will have free play opportunities and a craft activity.
We offer a diverse range of activities and play opportunities to support your child's connection with nature.
We will have various tools available, such as folding saws, hammers, and hand drills, we will show children how to safely use tools, and encourage them to develop these skills.
We will also enjoy a campfire at each session (weather permitting), this is a lovely way for everyone to come together, snacks cooked on the campfire are included too (please bring your own drinks).
Natural crafts will be available and children will have the chance to explore the woodland.
This block of four sessions is a fantastic way to spend time outdoors with your little one, enjoying the sights and sounds of nature and supporting them to learn new skills. Children benefit so much from fresh air, exercise, the opportunity to take supported and managed risks, and the freedom to explore and discover.
Children will receive a certificate of recognition on the completion of Nature Detectives sessions with us showing the Forest School skills they have worked on.
This group is most suitable for children 2 - 5 years, you may also bring younger siblings.
The area of woodland we explore is accessed by a wood-chip path, it may be difficult with a pushchair but generally it is manageable, or if you have a younger one you may prefer to use a carrier/sling.
Please note the sessions will go ahead in most weather conditions, we encourage families to come along regardless of the weather, please dress yourself and your child appropriately - lots of layers, plus a hat and gloves on colder days, or a sunhat and sun cream on warmer days, and waterproof coat/all in one, and wellies usually work best. We advice snoods rather than scarves for safety around the campfire, please also tie children's hair back if it is long.
Although we do go ahead in various weathers, in the event of strong winds/stormy weather, and heavy/persistent rain we may need to cancel for safety reasons - cancellations will be posted on the FB page by 10am on the morning of the session.
