3-Day Bike Trip: Cumberland to Washington, D.C.
Get ready for an exciting cycling adventure as we embark on a fun 3-day bike trip from Cumberland to the lively heart of Washington, D.C.! This scenic journey will take us through beautiful landscapes, charming towns, and peaceful trails, giving us the perfect mix of nature and culture.
Trip Details:
Thursday, April 24, 2025: We’ll start our adventure by catching a one-way shuttle from Germantown to Cumberland. After arriving, we’ll check in and spend the night at the Fairfield Marriott in Cumberland, where we can relax and prepare for our cycling journey ahead.
Friday, April 25 (Day 1): We’ll kick off our trip in Cumberland, known for its rich history and lovely surroundings. Our first ride will take us along the C&O Canal Towpath, covering about 60.5 miles to Hancock (Mile Marker 124). Enjoy stunning views of the Potomac River and the famous Paw Paw Tunnel as we pedal across. After arriving in Hancock, we’ll spend the night at Motel 8, where we can recharge for the next day.
Saturday, April 26 (Day 2): On the second day, we’ll bike from Hancock to Harper’s Ferry, covering approximately 65 miles on the Towpath to reach near Mile Marker 60. This stretch is filled with beautiful scenery and interesting sights along the way. After reaching Harper’s Ferry, we’ll stay at a biker hiker hostel, a great place to connect with fellow cyclists and share stories from the road.
Sunday, April 27 (Day 3): Our final stretch will take us from Harper’s Ferry to Washington, D.C., where we’ll cover about 60 miles, ending at Mile Marker 0. We’ll ride until we reach this historic point, celebrating our amazing journey together!
Additional Details:
This trip is designed for cyclists of all skill levels but requires proper training. We’ll keep a comfortable pace and take plenty of breaks along the way.
Accommodation options include Motel 8 in Hancock and a biker hiker hostel in Harper’s Ferry, ensuring a cozy place to rest.
Important Reminder:
We need to start preparing now, as April 2025 will come around quickly! Hotel bookings and other lodging arrangements will be done in January 2025, so it's essential to plan ahead. We will share the registration form and more information about the route, places to stay, and what to pack in January 2025 as well.
