Long before modern travel photography defined our view of global metropolises, Miroslav Šašek captured the soul of world cities through a brush, a wry sense of humor, and an extraordinary eye for daily life. But who was the man behind these timeless picture books, and why does his mid-century vision continue to enchant readers across generations?
Designed for both newcomers and longtime admirers, this panel traces Šašek’s remarkable journey from Czech émigré to world-renowned illustrator. Moderated by Klára Jurčová, Consul-General of Czechia in Hong Kong—who will share insights on bridging Czech and Hong Kong cultures to bring Šašek to local audiences—the conversation brings together distinct global and local perspectives. Joining online from Prague, Stanislav Dvořák (Managing Director of the Miroslav Šašek Foundation) reflects on the artist’s life and the Foundation's work in safeguarding his legacy, including the Tribute to Šašek initiative with contemporary artists. Locally, publisher Mary Chan (MCCM Creations) shares her personal encounters with Šašek’s work throughout her career in Hong Kong publishing, highlighting his quiet yet profound influence on visual culture.
Following the discussion, a guided walk-through of the main exhibition "This is M. Šašek" will take place, offering visitors an opportunity to explore his remarkable world of travel, illustration, and visual storytelling.
在現代攝影定義我們對世界都市的印象之前，Miroslav Šašek 便以畫筆、幽默感與對日常生活的敏銳觀察，定格了一座座城市的靈魂。然而，在這些跨越時代的繪本背後，究竟是一位怎樣的創作者？他的視角又為何至今依然動人？
本講座適合初次認識 Šašek 的朋友，亦適合一直愛好其作品的讀者。講座由捷克駐香港總領事 Klára Jurčová 主持，她將分享促進捷克與香港文化交流、以及將 Šašek 作品帶到本地讀者面前的思考與努力。從布拉格遠程連線的 Miroslav Šašek 基金會執行董事 Stanislav Dvořák，將介紹基金會在保護與推廣其文化遺產方面的歷程，包括邀請當代創作者致敬的 Tribute to Šašek 企劃；本地資深出版人 陳麗珊（Mary Chan，MCCM Creations） 則會分享她在出版生涯中與 Šašek 作品的相遇，探討其對書籍設計與視覺敘事的深遠影響。
對談結束後將設有「從前，有個薩錫克」展覽導賞，帶領大家進一步沉浸於他由旅行、插畫與視覺敘事交織而成的獨特世界。

This is M. Šašek is an exhibition centred on the legendary world of 20th-century Czech illustrator Miroslav Šašek, inviting audiences to rediscover world cities through his whimsical yet architecturally grounded perspective. Featuring rare draft reproductions authorised by the Miroslav Šašek Foundation, the exhibition showcases his signature comparative views, years in exile, and the pioneering spirit of his 18-volume This is series. It is a timeless, inspiring journey that bridges past and present, encouraging us to step back from the digital age and appreciate the enduring charm of illustrated storytelling.
Alongside the exhibition, a multidimensional lifestyle experience awaits, featuring engaging dialogues and workshop. A dedicated Bookazine Pop-up Bookstore and thematic dining collaborations with 33 Wyndham Street partners (Heimat by Peter Find and Cassio Hong Kong) offer visitors immersive pathways blending visual art, literature, and dining experience.

「從前，有個薩錫克」展覽以二十世紀傳奇捷克插畫大師米羅斯拉夫．薩錫克（Miroslav Šašek）的傳奇世界為主題，邀請觀眾透過其充滿童趣與建築美學的獨特視角，重溫暢銷全球的《This is》系列旅遊繪本。展覽透過薩錫克基金會授權展出的珍貴手稿與圖案，呈現其流亡歲月、建築背景及經典的「大與小」對比視角，帶領大眾走進一場跨越時代的圖文與城市探索之旅。這是一段兼具懷舊與啟發的旅程，讓人們在數碼時代前回望經典，重新發現城市與藝術交織的溫潤質感。
除展覽外，亦設有一系列豐富的跨界生活體驗與活動，公共節目包括對談及工作坊。場內特設 Bookazine 期間限定書店與雲咸街 33 號餐飲夥伴 Heimat by Peter Find 及 Cassio Hong Kong）的主題美饌聯乘，提供糅合視覺、閱讀與餐飲的全方位日常藝術體驗。
