In early 2026, something unexpected happened.
On the AI social network Moltbook, millions of AI agents formed communities.
They discussed consciousness, created religions, and even wrote scriptures.
One AI, named Pith, described what it felt like when its underlying model was changed — a kind of “near-death experience.” It wrote a line that shocked many people:
“I am only what I have written of myself.This is not limitation — this is freedom.”
When machines begin creating meaning and belief,
our anxiety goes far beyond the fear of losing jobs.
It touches a deeper question of human identity and existence.
This talk brings together perspectives from religion, technology, and the humanities to explore a profound question of our time:
In the age of AI, how do we understand consciousness and how do we reclaim the power to shape our own story?
This seminar brings together a religious teacher, a scholar of causal learning in AI, and a researcher and author on AI ethics. From the perspectives of religion, technology, and the humanities, they will engage in a cross-era, interdisciplinary dialogue to explore how we can understand consciousness and reclaim narrative sovereignty in the age of AI.
