The Anchors of Memory : Liang Han Yun Solo Exhibition
Liang Han Yun draws inspiration from childhood memories of the hillside behind her home, transforming her perception of home from a physical space into a mental state. For her, the small hill, attached to a military academy, was both a natural playground and an emotional sanctuary. The towering lemon eucalyptus trees on the hill acted as guardians, marking a path to inner stability and belonging. These memories and sensory experiences intertwine, creating a profound emotional texture. Through exploring the connection between nature and family, her work reflects the dynamic relationship between external environments and the inner self, inviting viewers to reconsider the essence of home and belonging.
Her works integrate ceramics, metal, wood, and natural materials, with a pure and ritualistic approach that expresses the subtle connection between fire, earth, and life. She gathers natural objects, infusing them with the warmth and simplicity of craftsmanship, presenting the emotional essence deeply embedded in bodily memory. Each piece engages in a dialogue with its environment, creating inner anchors that explore themes of security and belonging. Even as the hill’s appearance changes over time, her creations capture its enduring spiritual essence, reminding viewers to reevaluate the profound connections between ourselves, nature, and memory.
Liang Han Yun
Liang Han Yun was born in Kaohsiung and draws significant inspiration from nature. She majored in English during her undergraduate studies and later pursued a master’s degree in Visual Arts at the Institute of Applied Arts, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. During her academic journey, she participated in exchange programs in New York and Helsinki and joined a ceramics club, where she began exploring three-dimensional material creations. After graduation, she balanced a career in design with a focus on personal artistic practice, incorporating natural elements into her works and developing a distinctive style in ceramics.
In 2017, she traveled to Kochi, Shikoku, Japan, to apprentice under ceramic artist Teppei Ono, immersing herself in ceramic creation. Following her first solo exhibition in Osaka in 2020, she continued to exhibit across Japan. Selected by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, she participated in an artist residency at the Shiga Ceramic Cultural Park in Japan and later at the Tsung-Yeh Arts and Cultural Center in Tainan. Returning to Taiwan in 2022, she resumed her artistic practice and exhibitions, earning the Tainan New Arts Award in the same year. She was also shortlisted for the 2025 Kaohsiung Award.
