Welcome to the club where we read the stories they don’t want us to. If you’ve ever wondered why a book is banned, what’s at stake when voices are silenced, and what we can do to protect the right to read freely, this is the place for you.Each month, we’ll dive into books that have been banned, are on the verge of being banned, or might just ruffle some feathers. In particular, we’ll discuss books that could face bans under current political shifts and initiatives like Project 2025.
Books that celebrate diverse voices, LGBTQ+ experiences, racial justice, and honest depictions of history and identity may be especially at risk in a landscape where book restrictions are on the rise.
In our discussions, we’ll explore the themes, talk through the impact these stories have on us and our society, and unpack the implications of censorship on education and literacy. We’ll also strategize together on how to protect access to literature that informs, challenges, and broadens our perspectives. 📖💬
