Nella cartografia dei rapporti di forza che attraversano il continente eurasiatico, la Serbia si staglia come un punto di rottura e di resistenza. Dragoš Kalajić, intellettuale e artista serbo, ricordava come la serbia fosse da sempre collocata su una linea di frizione storica: luogo di incontro e di scontro fra imperi e civiltà, dai Traci ai Romani, da Bisanzio all’Islam, dall’Ungheria al mondo germanico fino all’attuale pressione del blocco euroatlantico.
Un “limes universale”, un confine vivo e mobile in cui si misura la capacità di un popolo di opporsi all’avanzata delle forze dissolutrici. Ogni aggressione subita dalla Serbia nel corso della storia moderna, dai bombardamenti austro-ungarici alla tragedia del 1999, si inscrive in questa dinamica: tentativi di penetrazione che possono ferire, ma che non riescono mai a spezzare del tutto la centralità simbolica e geopolitica di questa fortezza.
La conferenza intende collocare la Serbia nella prospettiva multipolare contemporanea: torre di guardia dell’Eurasia, luogo strategico sullo scacchiere globale, ma anche cuore di una memoria che invita a non cedere, a non ritirarsi, a riconoscere – come scriveva Kalajić – che esiste sempre un “territorio inviolabile”, quello custodito da chi possiede purezza di pensiero, di parola e di azione.
Milano ospiterà dunque un confronto che non riguarda solo la Serbia, ma l’intero destino eurasiatico: dal cuore dei Balcani si irradiano infatti le linee di frattura che separano mondi diversi e, forse, le possibilità di una loro riconciliazione su basi nuove, al di là dell’egemonia atlantista. – Diego Cinquegrana.

In the cartography of power relations that traverse the Eurasian continent, Serbia emerges as a point of rupture and resistance. Dragoš Kalajić, Serbian intellectual and artist, reminded us that Serbia has always been situated on a historical fault line: a place of encounter and confrontation between empires and civilizations, from the Thracians to the Romans, from Byzantium to Islam, from Hungary to the Germanic world, up to the current pressure of the Euro-Atlantic bloc.
A “universal limes”, a living and shifting frontier where the capacity of a people to resist the advance of dissolutive forces is tested. Every aggression suffered by Serbia in modern history—from Austro-Hungarian bombardments to the tragedy of 1999—fits within this dynamic: attempts at penetration that may wound, but never succeed in shattering the symbolic and geopolitical centrality of this fortress.
The conference aims to situate Serbia within the contemporary multipolar perspective: as a watchtower of Eurasia, a strategic point on the global chessboard, but also as the heart of a memory that calls for perseverance, for steadfastness, and for recognition—as Kalajić wrote—that there always exists an “inviolable territory”, one safeguarded by those who possess purity of thought, of word, and of action.
Milan will thus host a debate that concerns not only Serbia but the destiny of Eurasia as a whole: from the heart of the Balkans radiate the lines of fracture that divide different worlds—and perhaps the possibilities of their reconciliation on new foundations, beyond Atlanticist hegemony. – Diego Cinquegrana.
