‘Stepping Into the Shade’: Documentary Series Premiere

The much-anticipated documentary series, Stepping Into the Shade, will premiere in the Library's Trefz Forum. Hosted by the acclaimed journalist Leslie Mayes, the evening will include an exclusive glimpse into the series' most compelling scenes, followed by an enriching panel discussion and live Q&A session.

Stepping Into the Shade is a love story about the people who toiled in the soil on the Connecticut tobacco farms. This documentary series will explore the history of Connecticut tobacco farming and the various stories of the people who worked on the farms and changed culture and Civil Rights. The series is directed and produced by Brian Day and Kristen Morgan and hosted and produced by June Archer.

Schedule of events:

5 pm: Official opening with an engaging mixer where attendees can interact with local cigar vendors, engage in photo ops, and meet authors featured in the series.

6 pm: Exclusive screening of select scenes from the documentary.

7 pm: Panel discussion featuring notable figures like Michael Chambers Sr., Dr. Jason Chang, and more, alongside an interactive audience Q&A.

8 pm: VIP Reception with a diverse selection of culinary delights, representing the cultures and ethnicities featured in the series.
