Family Fun. ‘Noticing Nature Quiz’ - Win a Picnic Set in a carry bag!Pick up a Quiz sheet at the Garden Friends stall during the Botanic Gardens Open Day on Saturday May 23 at the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens > 8am - 12noon.
The Quiz - text details.... A short walk in the Gardens - Noticing Nature.
Using the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens Visitors Guide / Map on the Botanic Gardens Cafe (22) wall or the brochure…
Start you walk from the top of the (Finch Hatton Gorge Waterway waterfall - 23)
1. At beginning of your walk - Choose one of these five colours. Walk slowly through the Gardens and write down objects you find in that colour as you go…
2. Trace around or draw two different shaped leaves you see during your walk. (Use the back of the paper to draw on.)
3. (Screens and Hedges - 27) - Stop and look closely into the shrubs, especially in the Native Hibiscus near the path. What insects can you see?. Draw one you see (Use the back of this paper) or take a photo for identification later.
4. (Matsuura Logo Garden - 28) - Dare to take your shoes off and walk mindfully on the different surfaces in this area - Circle which texture your toes like best?

5. Walk back towards the buildings on the lower path. Stop and sit on the grass near the Flame Trees / Lagoon. Listen and look - What birds can you see / hear? What other sounds do you hear. Lie down on the grass and look up - Write down what you see in the sky?
6. What’s my natural object? This is a fun one to play with kids - you'll need at least two people. Ask them to close their eyes. Choose a natural object nearby and place it in their hands. Get them to feel and smell it carefully. Can they guess the object?
7. (At the bottom of the waterfall - 23) Hold the handrail, close your eyes for a minute and listen to the sounds of the water. Being near water is scientifically shown to improve our wellbeing.
8. A bit of exercise - Walk up, down and then up the stairs again (3 times) of the Lagoon Outlook Deck. How many steps did you take?
9. Front Entrance sculpture - How many Frogs are there?
10. Keep Learning – Be curious about nature and discover something new. What did you learn at the Garden Friends stall today?
