Welcome to ȘUFNI’s launch event!
On July 25, from 12:00, Cotton Club becomes a treasure chest of exhibitions, installations, workshops, performances, film screenings and music by young artists from Cluj and the surrounding region.
Spend the day wandering through art, making art yourself, meeting the people behind the works and becoming part of a new creative community.
What is ȘUFNI?
In hungarian, “sufni” (derived from the german Schuppen) means a kind of outdoor shed, where you would keep all of your knick-knacks hoarded over the years, the things you can never seem to be rid of, the things you hold dear, your personal treasures.
We founded ȘUFNI in Cluj-Napoca with that same idea in mind: to gather emerging artists, ideas and people under one roof and create a community where they can grow together.
For our very first event, we'd like to share our treasures with you.
Throughout the day you'll discover:
• exhibitions and installations
• participatory workshops
• short film screenings
• performances
• live music and sound installations
Many of the works are interactive, you won't just experience them, you'll become part of them.

Featured artists and their work
EXHIBITIONS
✨Barton Plause (Farkas Bogdán) : ,,Standing Guard’’ - sculpture
Guardians who have outlived whatever they were meant to defend. Once divided by thick walls of a forgotten shelf, they remained unaware of each other’s existence. Through the passing of time, still keep a watch over an empty center, where the treasure is left for the viewer to imagine.
Is the treasure lost, or stolen?
Gleaming parts of the guardians
Leave the question open.
✨ Erika Csákány: The Garden of Small Treasures - digital illustrations and traditional ink drawings
The Garden of Small Treasures unfolds as a symbolic landscape where botanical forms, animals, folkloric elements, and female figures appear as fragments of an inner mythology. Each work functions as a small visual “treasure” that invites personal interpretation. The exhibition blurs the line between dream and memory, offering an intimate and open-ended visual experience.
*At the event, she invites you not only to immerse yourselves into her art, but you can also take part in creating a new work, by completing a communal illustration.
✨ Boróka Starmüller - digital illustration and workshop
Her project explores healing through storytelling, bringing together a pop-up book, illustrated cards, and handmade safe-place houses. Each house represents a personal story, creating a shared community of comfort and belonging. Add your own safe-place house and become part of this growing collective.
✨ Ágota Könczey: Atlas - photo-based mixed media
We all carry a personal visual atlas shaped by the images, objects, textures, and places that surrounded us while growing up. This work is a screenshot of how I imagine my own inner map: the visual archive I instinctively draw upon whenever I encounter something new. It is my legend, the system through which I decode the world. The "treasure" lies in these personal archives and in the unexpected moments when our individual maps overlap.
✨ Attila Ádám: Between Breaths - photography
“Between Breaths” is a beginning for a journey of self-discovery. It explores the state of the mind when it rests after a deep breath. What do people are holding and how they can let those things go. The moment of realisation: “it's not what happens to us that matters, but how we react to it.”
*If you feel up to it, bring your own camera (cellphone is alright as well) and try Attila’s method of work, talk about what it means to be between breaths together

WORKSHOPS
✨ Sára Budrala: Dressed body - beyond the known self
This drop-in workshop opens a temporary wardrobe as a space for play, reflection and small experiments with identity. Through trying on clothes, conversation and introspective questions, we will look at how we dress, what we repeat, what we avoid, and what kinds of selves become possible through a different garment. Clothing will be approached not as styling, but as a subtle tool for self-knowledge: something that can bring up memories, gestures, desires, discomforts or unexpected freedoms. Each participant can choose their own level of immersion and interest - playful, subtle, feminine, masculine, sexy, neutral, strange or simply curious.
✨ Iza Orbán - Safe Space Sisters: Bits & Pieces: Crafting Treasures
In this hands-on workshop by Safe Space Sisters, participants will decorate a wooden shadow box or a small fabric bag using paint, glitter, stones, fabric, nails, quotes, and found objects. A treasure can be anything meaningful - a memory, a symbol, a lucky charm, or something discovered during the event. There are no rules, only space to explore and create freely. As you work, you can collect small pieces to include in your creation or bring your own personal items. The finished piece becomes a unique keepsake that tells your story through the little things you choose to keep.

PERFORMACE
✨ Georgiana Bighescu: The light - Lambe-lambe theatre
A tiny firefly notices a mysterious light glowing in the distance. At the same time, a little star is drawn toward a flickering light beneath the trees. Their journey of curiosity leads them to an unexpected friendship, revealing that the greatest treasure is the light we discover in one another.

INSTALLATIONS
✨ Csaba Dénes: BLUE - audiovisual installation
His installation is a tribute to Derek Jarman. For Jarman, blue is not merely a color but a state of being - one that evokes memory, loss, solitude, and the experience of time. His project translates this idea into a spatial environment, creating a subjective space in which blue is not only seen but experienced. Rather than representing a specific place, the installation constructs an inner landscape where perception and memory gradually merge.
✨ Dániel Hermán and Zalán Nagy invite you to a Poetry Path in collaboration with Botond Tulogdi-Szűcs, Henrietta Csüdöm and Laura György: Téblábnyomok
Follow a self-guided poetry walk around Cotton Club, along the Someș river, where nine carefully selected locations reveal poems by Hungarian authors from Romania. At each stop, scan a QR code to listen to the poem and discover how literature, memory, and the city intertwine through place, voice, and walking. The poems will be read by actors: Botond Tulogdi-Szűcs, Henrietta Csüdöm and Laura György.
*this experience will be available only in hungarian. Please bring your headphones for better immersion.

FILMSCREENING
Come and see short movies and experimental works made by young artists in our region: Sára Budrala • Marót-Örs Buzási • Ágnes Anna Farkas • Lehel Fazakas • Gergely Lukács • Zsófia Makkai • Marian Fărcuț • Zsuzsa Sándor • Timothy Sós • Kristóf Szántai • Loretta Szatmári

MUSIC
✨Bálint Pattanyús (suerke): Transient Treasures - open sound installation
Transient Treasures is an open sound installation featuring a modular electronic synth setup and improvised hand-made instruments. Visitors are welcome to join a bunch of musicians freely jamming, seeking brief moments of awe within an ever-evolving, untamed flow of freely tuned drones and experimental soundscapes. The aim is not to create coherence, but to curate transience. Witnessing rather than expressing.
*Bring your own instrument and join the jam!
✨ Erika Csáki has prepared a special performance for you as well. She will sing - as she puts it: “Forgotten songs that can resonate with many people and evoke memories, whether sweet or sour.”

📣While most of the activities will be ongoing during the entirety of the event, the hour-by-hour programme will be posted on our event page a few days prior to the event, so you can make sure you plan your day well and don’t miss out on anything.
Since the day is long, and people tend to go hungry, Orsolya Csengeri is busy preparing a special “treat” for you in the kitchen. Don’t miss out on it!

💎Our event is donation based. All of the funds will go directly toward making this event and possibly many more happen<3. No ticket required. Suggested donation: 40-60 RON
We are looking forward to meeting you there!
