What Širom performs is a form of imaginary folk music. The quirky Slovenian band consists of three virtuoso multi-instrumentalists who play more than twelve instruments in total, ranging from homemade harps, a ukelele and banjo to the balafon, rebab, ghaychak and hurdy-gurdy. Širom clearly derives its material from an immense range of musical sources, but the musicians’ untrammelled imagination combines everything into a coherent whole. Raw vocals, a meditative drone and passages reminiscent of contemporary acoustic rock – you’ll find it all on Širom’s unique path.

Širom propose une forme de musique folklorique imaginaire. Cet étrange groupe slovène se compose de trois multi-instrumentistes virtuoses, qui utilisent au total plus de douze instruments : harpes artisanales, ukulélé et banjo, balafon, rebab, ghaychak et vielle à roue. Širom puise manifestement son inspiration dans de nombreuses sources musicales qu’il parvient à réunir grâce à une imagination débridée. Een vorm van denkbeeldige volksmuziek, dat is waar Širom voor zorgt. De eigenzinnige Sloveense band bestaat uit drie virtuoze multi-instrumentalisten, samen goed voor meer dan 12 instrumenten: van zelfgemaakte harpen, ukelele en banjo, tot balofon, rebab, ghaychak én hurdy-gurdy. Širom put duidelijk uit heel wat verschillende muzikale bronnen, maar brengt dankzij een ongebreidelde verbeelding alles tot één geheel. Rauwe zang, meditatieve drone en passages die herinneren aan hedendaagse akoestische rock – op de unieke weg van Širom kom je het allemaal tegen.
