Belgian ethio-jazz band Black Flower released its first album 'Abysinnia Afterlife' exactly ten years ago on Bruges-based W.E.R.F. records. This record hit like a bomb and was one of the iconic records that helped usher in 'the new wave of Belgian jazz'. Since then, they have been doing well and have five albums to their credit.
Their reputation transcends national borders and well-known fans worldwide include BBC radio icon Gilles Peterson and The Gaslamp Killer. They will release a new album in spring '25 and our curiosity knows no bounds. Music blog Louder Than War about their previous album: "Black Flower's fifth album, Magma, is a vibrant and hypnotic mix of jazz, Afrobeat, psych and prog. Thankfully, in these times of vanilla-flavoured, algorithm-satisfying releases, it is quite unique."
