Kentridge vyrůstal v Johannesburgu během apartheidu, v rodině hluboce oddané myšlenkám sociální spravedlnosti. Už jako student se zapojil do aktivistických hnutí proti apartheidu. Tyto zkušenosti formovaly jeho uměleckou praxi, která odráží sociální a historické napětí Jihoafrické republiky a zároveň se dotýká univerzálních témat lidské existence.

This exhibition represents the first major survey in the Czech Republic dedicated to William Kentridge, one of the most prominent artists of the contemporary era. Kentridge grew up in Johannesburg during the time of apartheid, raised within a family deeply committed to the ideals of social justice. Even during his student years, he was active in movements opposing the apartheid regime. These formative experiences shaped an artistic practice that reflects the social and historical tensions of South Africa while addressing universal themes of human existence.
