About this Event

Join Øra nØir for Kapwa, a program exploring connection, memory, community, and shared humanity through the expressive sound of the saxophone quartet. Taking its title from Tyree Nesbitt’s Kapwa, a work inspired by the Filipino concept of “shared self,” the program brings together music by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, George Walker, Jeff Scott, and Tyree Nesbitt. Through moments of lyricism, reflection, and celebration, Kapwa invites audiences into a musical experience centered on storytelling and mutual care.

Øra nØir is an independent Virginia-based saxophone quartet committed to creating chamber music experiences that are emotional, distinctive, and inviting. Formed through a shared desire to rethink how classical music is presented and experienced, the ensemble creates programs that bring together familiar works and new music they care deeply about, highlighting Black composers and musicianship as an essential part of that artistic vision.
