They came from all over the world.Paris was their chance, their promise, their lover — and above all, an inexhaustible source of inspiration.
It was here that they found a space for experimentation.
That is why this extraordinary artistic phenomenon came to be known as École de
Paris — the School of Paris.
During the guided tour, we will focus on the stories of artists whose lives and careers reveal what made Paris truly unique such as Tamara Łempicka, Moïse Kisling, Mela Muter, Marc Chagall, Tsuguharu Fujita, Amedeo Modigliani, Chaïm Soutine, Alicja
Halicka and Kiki de Montparnasse. Of particular emotional resonance is the presentation of Suzanne Valadon’s paintings in her historic studio, adding an intimate layer to the story of artistic life in Montmartre.
Their biographies, choices, and artistic paths help us understand why Paris became the world’s artistic capital: a place where talent could be transformed into identity, ambition into style, and individual vision into a universal language.
The exhibition brings together an exceptional private collection from Poland. The Marek Roefler collection embodies the spirit and diversity of the School of Paris with rare intensity. Housed at Villa La Fleur near Warsaw, it is being presented for the first
time outside its home, through a selection of emblematic works. It particularly highlights the legacy of Polish and Jewish artists, emphasising their importance in the emergence of the avant-garde.
École de Paris is a phenomenon encountered throughout Parisian museums devoted to early 20th-century art. Yet an exhibition of this scope and depth is a rare event — one that will not be repeated for a long time. Experiencing it through a guided tour led by a Polish guide who came to the French capital specifically to present this unique exhibition, in the very city where the movement was born, offers a rare opportunity to grasp the essence of Paris as a creative force.
Curateurs of the exhibition are: Alice S. Legé and Artur Winiarski
