About this Event
Objectives: This First Aid for Combat Sports Course is the same format and content as The Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course, but with more emphasis on typical injuries that you will find in a combat sports environment. Once you have completed this course you will be certificated to meet Health & Safety (First Aid) 1981 Regulations to be a First Aider in a work environment, with the added content of dealing with combat sports injuries. This course is also suitable for workplaces or those seeking to know more about public life-saving skills.
Prerequisites: No previous experience is required.
Assessment: You will be assessed formatively throughout the course on your involvement and participation with the roles and tasks. There will be a summative assessment where you will demonstrate your understanding of assessing an emergency situation, conducting a primary survey of a casualty, the recovery position, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), dealing with choking, dealing with wounds & bleeding and how to deal with concussion.
Guided learning hours: The course is a 4-hour face-to-face classroom-based session with additional time (up to 2 hours) for those that require more hands-on-practice. We have found in the past that 4-hours is sufficient for those renewing their annual certification, however, the tutors will be available for further discussion, training, or practice for those that require it. This gives the tutors more dedicated time for those individuals that need it.
Course time: You should fully understand your role as a First Aider within 4 – 6 hours.
Entry requirements: A minimum of 16 years old. We ask that you have an interest to learn about First Aid, so you fully engage with the course. You must be able to communicate effectively with a basic understanding of the English language including reading and writing.
