About the Artists
Collective SUR
Carolina Silva is a Colombian musician, singer, and songwriter specializing in Alterlatino music. Blending commercial sounds with traditional Latin American genres, she creates captivating music using her voice and ukulele. Professionally trained in music, Carolina has collaborated on interdisciplinary projects that combine music, dance, and theatre. Based in Vancouver, she has performed at festivals like the Vancouver Latin American Film Festival, Vancouver Mural Festival, Indie Fest, and Stand Festival. Passionate about sharing Latin American culture, Carolina is working on releasing original music to connect global audiences with the rich sounds of her heritage.
Dení Olivares (she, her), a singer from Mexico City, began her musical journey with her old friend, the violin, but has always loved singing. She recently embraced jazz singing, finding freedom in the genre and the non-verbal connection it generates. “If only we had the same willingness we have in music to listen and be listened to in our daily interactions,” she says. Proud of her Latinx roots, Dení incorporates boleros, Latin Jazz, and Bossa Nova into her repertoire to deepen her connection with the music and share her heritage. Known for her interactive performances, Dení invites audiences to sing along. So be ready to sing!
RCHRDY (pronounced ‘richardy’) are an emerging interdisciplinary artist and a good floor mopper, committed to reminding themselves that the divine is always small. Their constellation has been revealed through non-traditional artistic training, which has allowed them to create their own connections between Life and art-making, beyond the canonical standards of cultural institutions. Starting their career in performing arts, they’ve explored all kinds of creative endeavours such as installation making, music, collage, poetry, etc. Every material, any idea, possesses aesthetic qualities; an intrinsic excuse to play.
Capoeira Aché Brasil group, founded and led by the renowned Mestre Eclilson de Jesus, warmly welcomes everyone interested in participating in its activities. Since 1990, the group has been a pioneer in teaching Capoeira in Vancouver, frequently voted “Best Martial Arts Academy” by Georgia Straight readers in the “Best of Vancouver” category. The group promotes a healthy and responsible lifestyle, emphasizing interaction based on tolerance and respect, regardless of social status, education, age, disability, nationality, gender, or skin colour.
