What is ZOUNDS! about?

ZOUNDS! is our final year uni project. It follows two guys, Rob and Barnabus, trying to navigate life in Tudor England. Meet Rob (George Marshall) and Barnabus (Dan Cassin-Scott), two hopeless best mates trying (and failing) to find success, love, and purpose in a grimy Tudor England that feels suspiciously like a Wetherspoons.

Down on their luck with no jobs, no money, and no girlfriends, the pair spend their evenings in their local tavern, dreaming of something more. Rob, a delusional would-be actor from Tewkesbury, swears he’s destined for greatness, and Barnabus wants a free drink and someone to flirt with.

When Rob falls head over heels for Elizabeth, the new barmaid, he tries to impress her by claiming he’s about to land a prestigious acting job. Spotting a flyer for an “audition,” he boasts that he’ll soon be rich and famous, and promises to take her out for a lavish dinner once he’s hired.

Cut to the next day, where Rob and Barnabus arrive at the audition, surrounded by other would-be performers. The only problem? It’s not for a play, it’s for the position of Court Fool. Rob delivers a heartfelt stand-up routine that completely bombs, while Barnabus accidentally steals the show with an unplanned mime act that ends with a trouser-splitting disaster. To Rob’s horror, Barnabus gets the job, and when Rob insists they come as a “package deal,” both are hired… for no pay.

That evening, Rob keeps up the lie, taking Elizabeth out for the “fancy dinner” he can’t afford. When she starts asking about his supposed wages, his story collapses faster than Barnabus’s trousers. By the time the bill arrives, Elizabeth’s gone, Rob’s broke, and the waiter’s asking if he’ll be paying in shillings or goat.

ZOUNDS! ends with the two lads back where they started, penniless, humiliated, and somehow still convinced their big break is just around the corner.
We are a bunch of enthusiastic film students who have come together to make our final project for uni come to life. This is our last chance to all work together completely unrestricted, and we need your help to make this come to life.
