About this Event

Zine Mela Opening Saturday 11am-5pm kicks off a month July exhibition, hang out space and events programme.



Zine Mela: South Asian Journeys in DIY Cultures comes to Turf Projects in the form of an public living room of zines, comics, cassette cultures, archive, art collection, to connect indy publishing and alternative spaces, your hang out space.



Drop in, explore, Zine n chill. Play carrom, read zines, explore decolonial history and anti-racism archives.

South Asia meaning Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Indian, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives, Afghanistan, Kashmir Adivasi first nations and their global diasporas across Caribbean, Africa, Latin America, Europe, Americas, Arab World and South Asian language orientations from Gujarati, Hindi, Urdu to Bengali to Tamil, South Asian variations of English, hybrid slang. This current Turf edition South Asian diaspora in Norway, South Africa and Malaysia, locally in Croydon.

This year features the Lumbung Zine Club - a transnational community from Documenta 15 from Indonesa, Phillipines, Austrailia, Thailand, Malaysia. Co-curated by Ranerimmm of Projek Rabak.


Curator Hamja Ahsan will be present in the space for the duration.


Readings at 1pm-3pm

Hamja Ahsan will read the pieces : Mela vs Biennale (about degrowth of Contemporary art in South Asia)
